OMG!!!
It's really *almost* here ... tickets are hanging on the door. Cap/Gown is hanging in the closet.
Ordering my cake today ... wow, it's really happening ...
*SQUEE!*
... and thanks to the internet, I haven't had to :)So far today I have ... - recategorized my MySpace friends - changed my blog layout on here - sorted through some old emails in Outlook - ok, cleaned a little - worked on our room some I worked my last overnight shift Thursday night. Marc was at least nice enough to let me go home early, which was good, because this week has been physically and emotionally draining. Tigger is in the animal hospital. Last week she started acting really strangely. Having had her for 11 years, I know when she's off and there was definitely something wrong ... took her to the vet on Saturday. She's not drinking, eating very little and wandering around the house randomly meowing/howling. (She's not a meow-er.) My vet isn't available, so I saw a different vet than usual. Vet tells me that her kidneys are both enlarged, the right one moreso. Bring her back on Monday for x-rays and an ultrasound. Okay, fine. Vet does the x-rays and ultra sound and some testing and realizes that her right kidney has stopped functioning and is causing her discomfort. The vet wants to take out her right kidney. I had the conversation with the vet about cost of surgery vs. quality of life afterwards and life expectancy. Vet tells me 3-7 year life expectancy. 1-5% chance the surgery won't work. Those numbers both work for me. I don't want my cat to suffer. Yes, she's "older", but 11 is hardly a death sentence for a cat. Go ahead and do the surgery. That's Monday. Wednesday I go to pick her up from the vet. Vet tells me that her back legs are a "little swollen" but that she is recovering well. They were unable to take out her kidney. The vet said she "saw some stuff in there she didn't like" but the vet moved some stuff around inside so that it's not pressing into her intestines anymore and she is comfortable. Vet gives me discharge instructions and I bring her home. I take her out of the towel she is wrapped up in, she takes one step and falls over. Gets up, falls over again. The swelling in her back legs has her so screwed up that she can't walk. She layed down on the ground and was trying so hard to get up with her front legs that she was literally spinning herself in circles and meowing out of pain/frustration. I took her right back to the vet and the vet is like "oh" ... we talked about the potential causes and then tells me that though she hadn't considered it before, euthanasia may be the right course of action since she is older. I tell her that I want Tigger to stay there through the weekend and see. I'm not making any rash, emotionally charged decisions. She tells me that she's on vacation until Monday and that she's turning the case over to a different vet. This vet calls me and asks me to bring back the meds that were dispensed so that he doesn't have to charge me for more and I head back. I talk to him, and that's when I learned that the reason they couldn't take out her kidney was because it was fused to her chest wall. This vet is referred to as "the cat whisperer" around town. He says that he thinks she'll be just fine. This vet calls me every day with updates. He says that usually when kitties are dying they won't eat. He says Tigger is eating voraciously and that she is the sweetest little girl he's seen in a while. He says her leg is still swollen, but he's trying some meds to help her. Says she's pooping and sitting up just fine, but walking still bothers her a bit. He says that Dr. L will be back on Monday and he's going to consult with her. I told him that I didn't trust Dr. L's decisions because she was suggesting euthanasia last time we spoke. Dr. P tells me that he's in Tigger's corner and is convinced she'll be ok. This may be the most expensive thing I've had to deal with lately, but it's my Tig Tig. I know, it's just an animal, but it's my Tig Tig. I love her immensely. People have told me that I have given her a good life and that if I have to put her down, it'll be ok. I'm just not ready to make that decision yet. I think she'll be ok. She's a stubborn ass and isn't ready to give up yet, and I'm not either. I guess I better go clean some ...
